I really recommend it! I suggest that first you read Heart of a Dog, which got me into Bulgakov in the first place and really introduces you to some of the common themes in his writing. It's much shorter, too. I love your reviews page - a friend recently recommended Stoner to me so I reckon I'll have to pick it up too

Yoo great question! I absolutely loved Wind Up Bird Chronicle, that's definitely up there as one of my favourite books by him and was also given to me by a family member so has extra emotions attached. Norwegian Wood was I think the second Murakami book I read and honestly I rank it a lot lower down on the list - I know it's a classic, but I just found I couldn't get into it in the same way? Maybe because it's a lot more depressing than a lot of his other books and with less of a mystery? If you liked WUBC, I would definitely suggest his book Killing Commendatore, which ticks a lot of the same boxes for me and had a similar sort of motif with holes in the ground. Another one of my all-time favourites by him is A Wild Sheep Chase, which is an earlier book and has less of the Murakami-isms that can make his later books a little painful. Hard Boiled Wonderland also has a subterranean side to it (seems like the books I enjoy have a theme!) but is also really about two existing worlds that overlap but very much in an oil/water way. Murakami also recently rewrote it into a new novel called The City and Its Uncertain Walls which is also worth a read, though pretty different and less sci-fi than HBW. Sorry for throwing a huge wall of text your way! I have a real love/hate or maybe love/exasperation relationship with Murakami lol, I hope you enjoy whatever books by him you pick up!
